Monthly Industry Trends & Insights From Colligo CEO Tim Brady
The Colligo team returned from an action-packed and informative week in the ‘Valley of the Sun’ at ARMA InfoCon 2025.
It’s always valuable to reflect on some of the interesting conversations we had during the week. Assuming that many others are facing similar challenges and hearing the same themes, I wanted to share a few of the more memorable comments and discussions:
“Legal wants fast eDiscovery, not a treasure hunt.”
We couldn’t agree more! The current state creates massive inefficiencies across organizations.
“We’re supposed to be in SharePoint. We’re actually in OneDrive, personal inboxes and panic.”
Absolutely true. Many are relying far too heavily on OneDrive. It should be used for personal and transitory documents, not as a storehouse for valuable company data and records. Panic is indeed the right word here!
“We don’t need another repository. We need the one we already paid for to actually work.”
We’re seeing many organizations choosing to centralize and standardize on SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365. Additional third-party repositories often make information fragmented, duplicated and harder to govern and secure—not to mention more expensive. We encourage organizations to fully leverage SharePoint — the repository you’re already paying for as part of your Microsoft 365 subscription.
“My users live in Outlook. SharePoint is not ‘a place’ to them. It’s homework.”
Knowledge workers spend most of their time in email. Saving and retrieving files and documents from SharePoint should be simple — and possible right within Outlook. That’s an area where we can certainly help!
The central themes from these conversations revolved around better searchability (whether for legal teams or daily work), making it easier — or even automatic — to save email records to SharePoint, centralizing SharePoint as the system of record, and enabling more to be done directly from Outlook. There was broad agreement that Outlook is not a repository — and shouldn’t be treated as one. The challenge now is making the right approach easy and accessible for all workers.
