Eating Your Own Dogfood – Law Technology News Article on Microsoft LCA

Law Technology News has just published an excellent article on Microsoft Legal and Corporate Affairs’ deployment of SharePoint 2010 for email, document and records management. The article talks about how LCA would “eat its own dog food,” by using Microsoft software as the basis of its system including Internet Explorer 8, Office 2010, SharePoint 2010 and Fast Search — plus one outside vendor’s product: Colligo Networks’ Colligo Contributor Add-in for Outlook.

Records Management is a Team Sport

On a recent cross-country flight, I had the opportunity to catch up on some reading and had the good fortune to have downloaded the slide deck and speaking notes to a presentation that Russell Stalters did at LegalTech last year. Russell is the Director, Information & Data Management at BP and one of the most respected people in the records management field. The session was titled, “Don’t Build Your E-Discovery Program on a Digital Landfill” and although I didn’t see it live, I found the archived presentation very interesting. In fact, I think it’s a must read

Records Management in SharePoint 2010

I found an interesting and very thorough whitepaper written by Bruce Miller of Rimtech Inc. on “Managing Electronic Records in Microsoft SharePoint 2010” that I knew would be of interest to most SharePoint professionals. You can request a copy of the whitepaper here.

Bruce Miller is a pioneer in the electronic recordkeeping software business. He co-founded Provenance Systems in 1989 which developed ForeMost and is now owned by EMC/Documentum Corp. Then he founded Tarian Software in 1999 which was the first e-Records technology certified against the revised DoD 5015.2 June 2002 standard. Tarian was later acquired by IBM.

2010 ARMA Conference – SharePoint 2010 and Records Management in the Spotlight

The Colligo team recently participated in another very interesting conference, this time the 2010 ARMA conference in San Francisco. The conference brings together records and information management professionals from across North America. Once again, SharePoint 2010 was very much front and center with this group. It was easy to see the importance that Microsoft is putting on the new records management functionality of SharePoint 2010, as they had a huge presence at the show, with an extremely busy booth and an always full SharePoint lab where they would walk people through the new records management capabilities of SharePoint 2010.
