Using CaseWare Working Papers 2005 over the Colligo Instant Network

Some customers have reported connectivity issues when running CaseWare Working Papers 2005 over Colligo.

There are a number of steps that can be taken to improve performance of this version of CaseWare Working Papers over Colligo.

1. If you are using the Colligo wireless Instant Network, you should ensure that you are achieving 802.11g speed in the ad hoc wireless network. You can check this by hovering over the wireless icon in the system tray and noting the speed displayed. If you are seeing 11mbps or less, it may be that one or more of the wireless adapters does not support 802.11g speed in ad hoc mode. For these machines, you can look at purchasing an external PCMCIA adapter which does support 802.11g in ad hoc mode, such as the “Linksys Wireless G” or “Linksys Wireless G with SpeedBooster”. Instructions for installing these adapters for maximum compatibility with Colligo are found in the article “Installing Linksys WPC54G or WPC54GS on Windows XP”.

2. If you are achieving 802.11g speed in the ad hoc wireless network (or you are running over a wired network) and are still having connectivity problems, you may try disabling Colligo’s IPSec encryption layer. In some cases, incompatibilities between Colligo IPSec and CaseWare Working Papers 2005 have been observed. The article “Disabling Colligo’s IPSec encryption layer” explains how to disable Colligo IPSec.

3. If the problem persists, you may wish to try disabling the “live update” functionality added in CaseWare Working Papers 2005. Disabling this functionality means that users may not immediately see updates to the CaseWare file, but instead have to refresh their view to see the latest changes. Disabling the live update functionality can reduce the network traffic generated by CaseWare Working Papers, which may help alleviate connectivity problems. The setting to disable live update is only available in R14 (or later) of CaseWare Working Papers 2005. To disable live update in Caseware Working Papers 2005 R14 (or later), add the following line in the cv.ver file of all users:

LiveUpdate=0

Then restart CaseWare on each machine.
