If you receive an error while trying to access a shared folder or printer on a machine, it may be due to a problem starting the Windows IPSec service. Follow the steps below to determine if Windows IPSec can start successfully on a computer, and find possible resolutions if it is not starting successfully. The following steps should be performed on both machines, the one sharing out the folder or printer and the one trying to access the shared folder or printer.
1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
2. Ensure the “IPSec Services” service is running (“IPSec Policy Agent” on Windows 2000). If it is not running, attempt to start it and proceed to step 3.
3. If, while starting the IPSec service, you receive error 10048 (Address already in use), check if any VPN clients or services are running on the machine. Certain VPN software is not compatible with Colligo folder/printer sharing. Try shutting down your VPN client and stopping any background VPN services. If you have the Cisco VPN client installed, go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Double-click on Cisco Systems VPN Service, click Stop, change its Startup type to Manual, and click OK. See if you can now manually start the IPSec service successfully. If you can start IPSec, restart Colligo on the client and host and see if the share can now be accessed.
4. If, while starting the IPSec service, you received error 10045 (Operation not supported), it indicates that networking software has been installed on the machine which is preventing Windows IPSec functions from working correctly. This software will need to be removed before Colligo folder/printer sharing can work correctly. Try uninstalling any networking software which you think might be causing the issue. If you use Verizon Wireless, or another wide-area wireless data provider, and you are running the Venturi VClient software, you should try uninstalling it. After uninstalling any candidate networking software, see if you can now manually start the IPSec service successfully. If you can start IPSec, restart Colligo on the client and host and see if the share can now be accessed.
